Jonathan Houdmont

Jonathan Houdmont is a Lecturer in Workplace Health at the Institute of Work, Health Organisations (IWHO) University of Nottingham, UK. He obtained his BSc in Psychology from the University of Leeds followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Further and Adult Education) from the University of Keele prior to undertaking a career teaching psychology in the further education sector.

After obtaining his MSc in Occupational Health Psychology with Distinction from the University of Nottingham in 2002 he joined the research staff at the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations. Jonathan is a member of the Institute's Occupational Health Psychology (OHP) Research Group. The OHP group is concerned with psychological, social, and organisational issues in occupational health and safety and in the provision of related health services.

Within this research group Jonathan has managed a number of funded projects. His research interests focus on i) legal and policy issues in organisational health and safety and specifically in relation to work-related stress and ii) the discipline of occupational health psychology with particular emphasis on education and training.

Since election in 2003, Jonathan has maintained the office of Executive Officer of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology. The position involves responsibility for management and administration of the Academy's continued development as the sole European representative body for the discipline. He has been the Academy's Conference Coordinator, organising full international conferences in 2003 (Berlin), 2004 (Oporto) and 2006 (Dublin). He also sits on the Academy committee charged with developing education and training throughout Europe. He co-edits the Academy's annual book series Occupational Health Psychology: European Perspectives on Research, Education and Practice and the series of conference proceedings Occupational Health Psychology: Key Papers of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology.

In the Institute, Jonathan is Programme Manager on the MSc in Workplace Health. He convenes and contributes to several postgraduate modules (face-to-face and e-learning). He is a personal tutor and supervisor for the research project element of Master degrees. He is part of the Institute's e-learning team and has held responsibility for the development of the virtual learning environment for the MSc in occupational health psychology by e-learning. Jonathan holds responsibility within the Institute for international developments in education in occupational health psychology.
