Professor Graham Stewart

Graham Stewart is Emeritus Professor of Brewing and Distilling in the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland. From 1994 until 2006 he was the Institute's Director. Since retirement he has established a consulting company - GGStewart Associates. He was a lecturer in Biochemistry in the School of Pharmacy at Portsmouth College of Technology (now Portsmouth University) from 1967 until 1969.

From 1969 to 1994 he held a number of technical positions with Labatt's in Canada and from 1986 to 1994 was Director of Brewing Technical Affairs for John Labatt Ltd. He became a member of the Institute of Brewing [now the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD)] in 1969, was elected a Fellow in 1987, and was the Institute's President in 1999 and 2000. He is also a Member of the Master Brewer's Association of the Americas and the American Society of Brewing Chemists. He also holds Fellowships in the Institute of Biology and the American Academy of Microbiology.

In addition to co-authoring and editing a number of books, he has published over 250 original papers, patents and reviews considering both brewing and distilling. He is the co-editor (with Dr. Inge Russell) of CRC's Critical Reviews in Biotechnology and is a member of the Editorial Boards of a number of journals including the Journal of the Institute of Brewing, and the Technical Quarterly of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas.
